How to use PDF Form Builder
- 1Pick your page size — A4, Letter or Legal — and portrait or landscape orientation.
- 2Click or drag a field type from the palette onto the page: heading, short text, long text, checkbox, dropdown, radio group, date or signature line.
- 3Drag fields to reposition them and use the corner handle to resize. Alignment guides snap fields to each other, to the page centre and to the margins; hold Alt to place freely.
- 4Select a field and set its label, internal field name, required flag and — for dropdowns and radio groups — its comma-separated options.
- 5Add more pages if the form runs long, then download either the fillable PDF or a flattened print version.
Alignment guides do the tidying for you
A form looks professional when the left edges line up and the vertical rhythm is even. As you drag, the builder compares the field against every other field on the page and against the page centre and margins, snapping when it gets close and drawing a guide line so you can see exactly what it aligned to. Hold Alt while dragging to override a snap and position a field by eye.
Labels and field names are different things
The label is the human-readable text printed on the page next to the box. The internal field name is what appears in exported form data and in any system that reads the PDF. Keep labels natural ('Surname') and names machine-friendly ('applicant_surname') and the responses will be far easier to process later.
Fillable or flattened
The fillable download keeps every field interactive, so recipients can type answers, tick boxes and save. The flattened download bakes the layout into static page content — the right choice when the form will be printed and completed by hand, or when you want a distributable specimen nobody can alter.
When to use the Forms tool instead
Form Builder is for creating a form from scratch. If you already have a PDF and only need to add fields to it or fill in fields someone else created, use PDF Forms — it detects existing AcroForm fields on upload and lets you place new ones over the existing artwork.
Supported formats, limits and things to know
- Creates standard AcroForm fields. XFA forms, used by some government portals, are outside the PDF specification this tool targets.
- Field-level JavaScript calculations, conditional logic and validation rules are not generated.
- Long-text fields render at 9 pt and short text, date and signature fields at 10 pt so answers fit the box.
- Page sizes are A4, Letter and Legal in portrait or landscape; custom dimensions are not supported yet.
- The builder produces the PDF only — collecting submissions online is not part of this tool.

Do I need an account to build a form?

Will the fields work in Adobe Acrobat?
Yes. The builder writes standard AcroForm fields, so the form is interactive in Acrobat, Apple Preview, Chrome's built-in viewer and most mobile PDF readers.
Can I add more than one page?
Yes. Add as many pages as the form needs; each page keeps its own fields and they are all written into a single PDF.
What is the difference between the fillable and flattened downloads?
The fillable version keeps every field interactive for on-screen completion. The flattened version turns the layout into fixed page content, which suits printing or distributing a version nobody can edit.
How do I make a field mandatory?
Select the field and tick 'Required' in the properties panel. Compliant PDF readers will then prompt the person filling it in before they save or print.
Can I collect the answers people submit?
Not from the builder itself. It produces the PDF; recipients fill it in and return it to you however you prefer — email, upload or print.
Is my form design uploaded anywhere?
No. The canvas, the field definitions and the generated PDF all stay on your device.
