Printing a contract, signing it, scanning it and emailing it back is a ritual with no purpose. An electronic signature applied directly to the PDF is faster, produces a cleaner document, and is legally recognised across most of the world — under ESIGN and UETA in the United States, eIDAS in the European Union, and the ECT Act in South Africa.
Sign PDF lets you draw a signature with your finger or mouse, type one in a handwriting style, or upload an image of your existing signature. Place it anywhere on any page, alongside initials, dates and text fields, then save a finished document.
How to use Sign PDF
- 1Upload the document you need to sign.
- 2Create your signature: draw it, type it, or upload a photo of a signature on white paper.
- 3Drag it onto the signature line and resize it to fit naturally.
- 4Add initials, the date and any other required fields on the other pages.
- 5Save and download the signed PDF.
Making a typed or drawn signature look right
Drawing with a finger on a phone gives a far more natural line than a mouse. If you upload a photo, sign in dark ink on plain white paper in good light — the background is removed so the signature sits cleanly on the page rather than in a white box.
Legal standing
In most jurisdictions an electronic signature carries the same weight as ink for ordinary commercial contracts. A narrow set of documents — wills, certain property transfers and some court filings — may still require a wet signature or notarisation. Check local requirements for anything unusual.
Signing in the browser is a privacy decision
Your signature image and the contract never leave your device. Compared with uploading a confidential agreement and your signature to a third-party e-signature platform, that is a considerably smaller exposure.
Supported formats, limits and things to know
- This produces a visible electronic signature, not a cryptographic digital certificate signature.
- Multi-party signing workflows with audit trails and countersigning are not provided.
- Encrypted documents must be unlocked first.
- Signatures are flattened into the page on save.
Sign PDF — frequently asked questions
Is an electronic signature legally binding?
For most commercial contracts, yes — ESIGN and UETA in the US, eIDAS in the EU and the ECT Act in South Africa all recognise them. A few document types still require wet ink or notarisation.
How do I create a signature?
Draw it with your finger or mouse, type your name in a handwriting style, or upload a photo of your signature written on white paper.
Can I sign on my phone?
Yes, and drawing with a finger on a touchscreen usually produces the most natural-looking signature.
Is my signature stored on your servers?
No. Signing happens entirely in your browser and neither the signature nor the document is uploaded.
Can I send the document to someone else to sign?
This tool signs your own copy. Multi-party routing with audit trails is a different workflow and is not included.
