About this template
A cover letter is your chance to make the case a resume can't — why this role, and why you. This template formats your letter as a proper business letter and downloads it as a PDF to send alongside your resume.
Write in your own voice and keep it to a single page. The template handles the layout; you handle the argument.
What a cover letter should do
Open with the role and your enthusiasm, use the middle to connect specific past results to what the job needs, and close with a clear, polite call to action. Generic letters that could go to any company get skipped; specific ones get read.
Pairing it with a resume
Send the cover letter as a separate PDF alongside your resume rather than embedding it. A two-file application is easier for a recruiter to forward and file.
Cover Letter Template — frequently asked questions
How long should a cover letter be?
One page — roughly three to four short paragraphs. Anything longer risks not being read. If you cannot say it on one page, cut rather than shrink the type.
Do I still need a cover letter in 2026?
When a role allows one, yes. Many recruiters still read them and they are a cheap way to stand out from applicants who sent only a resume. If a posting explicitly says not to, follow that instruction.
