How tables are detected
The converter analyses the horizontal and vertical positions of every text fragment on the page and infers column and row boundaries from the alignment, using ruling lines as confirmation where they exist. Well-ruled tables convert extremely reliably; tables held together only by whitespace are harder and occasionally merge columns.
Numbers are typed, not pasted
Values that look numeric — including currency symbols, thousands separators, percentages and negative figures in parentheses — are converted to true numeric cells. That is what makes the output immediately usable for reconciliation rather than a formatting chore.
Always reconcile a control total
Any table extraction is inference. Before you build on the output, sum a column in Excel and compare it to the total printed in the PDF. If they match, the extraction is sound; if not, you know exactly where to look.
